Hypnosis is far from sleep. It can be described as conscious reasoning being suspended either momentarily or for a period of time and imagination, visualization and relaxation heightened. This is the path that often parellel's sleep , deep meditation , inner reflection and is also a path to our unconscious mind. It is often likened to trance, meditation, prayer. The unconscious mind is the part of us that works 24/7 . It never sleeps; it is taking care of all the things we do automatically e.g. breathing, seeing, hearing, feeling and processing information moment to moment. The unconscious mind's priority is to keep us alive. The unconscious mind is our central processing unit that communicates with the conscious mind. The conscious mind acts as a filter and evaluates the information through our thought processes using a variety of means such as logic, reasoning, language.
